Hatzalah of Far Rockaway and Nassau County, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, was formed over twenty-four years ago for the purpose of saving lives through the delivery of emergency medical care to those in need. On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, our members, all volunteers, are trained to cater to the unique religious needs of the Jewish community as they relate to emergency care.

When we started, we initially only covered the Rockaways and Lawrence. Accordingly our neighborhood was known as the 'RL'. However, since then, "Chevra Hatzalah of The Rockaways and Nassau County" has grown and evolved into its present organization, licensed, equipped and prepared to respond to emergencies in all locations between Belle Harbor, East Rockaway and North Woodmere. Comprised of 68 licensed emergency medical technicians, 11 paramedics, 3 doctors, and 5 New York State certified ambulances. Our local 'RL' Hatzalah responds to approximately 2,500 calls per year.

Our members are doctors, lawyers, plumbers, and neighbors that you see on the street and at the store everyday. Not being confined to a central area to respond from, our members have an average response time of 2 minutes to emergencies from the time a call is dispatched to the Rockaways and Nassau County area. This has enabled the members to administer life saving critical care in the form of medications, oxygen, CPR, and Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) when every second counts.
